Have you been trying to figure out how to get into shape -- or stay in shape -- in the new year?
Were you super fit at a point in your life, and slipped out of it? Have you always longed to run? Try a triathlon? Or simply make fitness a part of your daily life?
Let our workouts help you get your groove back.
A bit about Basic Training's workouts: you don’t need the gym—we’ll help you build strength and definition without walls, mirrors or fifty different machines. Our full-body resistance workouts are designed to build lean muscle in every area of your body.
We run. We jump. We skip. We run some more. And we do it from the open vistas of Crissy Field to the hills of the Presidio and the dreaded sand stairs of Baker Beach. Log the miles with us and you’ll come out faster, leaner and maybe even a little inspired. You haven’t seen San Francisco until you’ve seen it from the trail.
If you stick with our routine four days a week, one hour a day, you’ll be a different person in six weeks. And you’ll have a whole new set of friends. There is no better bonding experience than push-ups at 6 AM. (or 7 AM, or 6:30 PM!)
Our first session of 2010 starts tomorrow. Jump in!

Mighty, mighty Fillmore Street hill

i have to brag a little bit about our last workout of last session.
I distinctly remember the day Jon suggested we head to Fillmore Street. I asked if he had any workout inspiration and he said, "I was thinking...." I knew it was going to be good. "Yes, continue... " i said. He says: "How come we never run up the Fillmore Street hill?"
My god, how could I have missed it? I mean, it's right there. Huge. Looming. Beautiful. Ominous.
So we started taking classes out there. And one after another, everybody in class started crawling up that hill. Then they started running part of it, walking part, running, etc. Then they kept going. By the end of the session we had folks carrying medicine balls above their head, doing indian runs, the whole 9 yards. (Except obviously it's waaaaaay more than 9 yards. All in all, it's about a mile from the ocean. Which is where our morning classes start).
All i can say is that I was truly blown away by the performance of our classes this session.
We are already off to a awesome new camp. Lots of people coming back for more, and lots of new folks trying us out for the first time. It's going to be our best camp yet, i can feel it!
Thanks everybody!

Marya's 4 Simple Running Tips
Lean into the hill on an uphill. You should be running at a steady pace even uphill. Take smaller steps if you need to keep your pace.
When running downhill don't lean back. This could hurt your knees. Try and lean forward-not too far-but let gravity take you down the hill not your knees.
Also on the downhill shake out your arms and shoulders and give your body a break on the down.
Don't clench your fists while running; this takes energy away from your run. You can have your hands in a fist but make it a light fist not clenched or you can also push your forefinger and thumb together if that is more comfortable.
